What we tell people booking Madurai
The route runs via Kothamangalam, Munnar, Bodinayakanur, Theni. These are the things that actually change how the day goes.

The Bodimettu descent out of Munnar drops 1,200 metres in about 20 km. It is spectacular and it is not a road to do after dark.

Meenakshi temple closes between 12:30pm and 4pm. Arriving at 2pm means waiting, and the evening ceremony at 9pm is the one worth staying for.

You can split this as Kochi–Munnar–Madurai over two days for very little more than the direct run, and it is a far better trip.
