If Wayanad is the real destination, breaking the journey at Kozhikode makes the Thamarassery ghat a morning drive instead of an evening one. We recommend it and it costs us a day.

Kozhikode has its own airport at Karipur. If you have not booked flights yet, check it — it is 90 km closer to Wayanad than Kochi is.

The beach, the Mananchira square and the SM Street market are all within two kilometres of each other in the town centre.

Traffic through Kuttippuram and Malappuram in the evening peak adds forty minutes. Leaving Kochi before 2pm avoids it.
